Cardboard vs. Totes

Earth is our home, so let’s help protect it!

We’ll use Home Depot and Uhaul for our comparison. They offer variety packs, but who knows how many you need to buy in each size? They have so much variety that it can add MORE stress trying to decide. So to keep it simple (we like easy, right!?) we’ll go based off the box closest in size to our tote.

Home Depot – $2.48 per box, $17.98 for tape gun with 1 roll, then $5.98 each additional tape roll
Uhaul – $2.85 per box, $4.95 per tape roll, $9.95 for tape gun 

Let’s not forget to consider the time it takes you to figure out how many and what size, pick them up, assemble the boxes (don’t cut yourself on that tape gun!), figure out how to stack them based on size/weight, break them down after, then recycle. Ouch! SO time consuming. 

If you rent our totes for 2 weeks, we charge $0.40 per tote, per day. I’ll do the math for ya.. $5.60.

Your totes come straight to your door assembled, baby! Just pack, move, then stack them as you unpack, and we’ll pick them up when you’re finished! Easy peasy.

Best case scenario.. cardboard averages up to 20 uses, then the fibers become too weak. Then only about 68% of people recycle the cardboard. Not all of it is accepted due to packing tape. For each cardboard box that IS accepted, 40% can be used to make a new one, and the other 60% is not useable. This portion gets burned, releasing C02 emissions into the atmosphere, or dumped in a landfill where it releases methane gasses contributing to global warming.

Our bins can be used again and again (up to 400 times or more.) This drastically exceeds cardboard. Then, when it is time to say goodbye to a tote due to damage or wear and tear, we create a new purpose for them! Since they are made out of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), we are able to take them to a recycling plant where they can create a new HDPE item.  This successfully creates zero waste! Unlike cardboard where a high percentage lands in a landfill, we are doing our part in helping the environment by re-purposing plastic that already exists.

Our minimum rental is 2 weeks. This works well for you if you can pack in 1 week and unpack in 1 week. Our customers have been LOVING the push to unpack quickly (otherwise you could have boxes attracting bugs over a year later!)

To book online, your request should be made a minimum of 48 hours in advance. The sooner, the better! However, if you find you need the totes in less than 48 hours, your best option is to email us at support@coastaltoterental.com so we can check our inventory right away for you and schedule accordingly.

Payments are made securely through our website upon booking. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. 

A damage deposit of $250, processed as a pre-authorization, will be required to schedule a delivery time. This is simply to encourage the renter to take good care of the property.. we want to make sure we can help as many people as possible with our rentals 🙂

If you find that your availability does not line up with ours at all, please email support@coastaltoterental.com and we will do our best to accommodate you.

We will be happy to accommodate extending the rental as long as the totes are not needed for another reservation. Please email support@coastaltoterental.com and we will check our inventory/schedule for you asap.

If we have more totes available, we are happy to accommodate you! Just email us at support@coastaltoterental.com and we’ll check our inventory. *Payment for additional totes and delivery fee will be required before delivery of the additional totes.

None! Our lids are attached to the bin. NO tape allowed or needed. Easy!

Oopsies! We know you didn’t mean to lose the tote, but we will need to replace it. There will be a fee for items that are damaged or lost. For further details, check out the Rental Agreement here.
